Leonie's Story

Leonie is a Sydney-based lawyer working in corporate, commercial and intellectual property law. With experience working for creative industries and volunteering at the Arts Law Centre of Australia, she is passionate about the intersection of law and art. Alongside her legal practice, Leonie is an oil painter combining traditional techniques and a contemporary style. Although Leonie has drawn for as long as she can remember, she only began oil painting during Covid in 2020.

Leonie explains: "I fell in love with the medium, and have since poured countless hours into my art. My work primarily focusses on creating delicate pieces with fine detail inspired by central themes of summer and light. It is also a product of my travels, having grown up in France, Germany, India, the UAE and Australia. Each piece takes between 6-12 hours to finish, depending on complexity and detail. Due to the slow-drying nature of oil, I will often complete them in one or two sittings, making the process slow and meditative – a good balance against the fast-paced legal environment of my weekdays."
